As you may have heard on the news, Portland had a wintry weekend. We had 5-8 inches of snow in my part of town, followed by a half-inch of freezing rain. Then everything froze and stayed that way. It’s remarkable since we aren’t used to winter weather. But so many communities have had unusual winter weather this year.
In between freezing rain storms, the sun came out briefly. I went outside to photograph the ice.

Love the close ups. Very nicely done. Makes me think of my childhood growing up in WI.
Thank you! I still need to learn some better ways to handle winter shots, but having my Blue House in the background was helpful. I grew up in Idaho. I don’t recall ice like this, but there was a lot of snow and cold, as I’m sure you had in Wisconsin. The most ice I have seen was when I lived in New England.
I remember a real bad ice storm one year. Then there was the big blizzard in April. That’s why I live in California. Though Washington was a serious contender.
Crystal, these are great! I too would have had a hard time not getting out there, too. Ice makes for awesome photos but I sure hate to see trees affected …
I think of this ice storm as a pruning, ha ha. The ice wasn’t so heavy that any tremendous damage was done in my area. Many of the small weak branches broke, and I think that’s a good thing for tree health.
Glad you liked the shots. I mentioned sunshine, but it was mostly behind clouds by the time I made it outside. It would have been fun to catch more sparkle, but I still like the images I did get.
