Journey to San Miguel de Allende

Our journey was all about the birth of Mexican independence. And family, of course.

I am not used to this kind of welcome, with family scattered all over the same city, and everyone trying to get in on it.

When I saw photos of Guanajuato for the first time, I realized where Pedro got his love of colours.

For any teenagers who may be reading this blog post, your parents wish you would do this sometimes: come up with your own plan if our plan is so bad.

We cut our time in Valladolid short and went to Tulum next.

Valladolid was founded in 1543 by Francisco de Montejo, and named after the capital of Spain at that time.

A cenote is a sinkhole filled with water. They are everywhere in the Yucatán.

I was elated to find that in actuality, each one of these selling points turns out to be absolutely true, and more so than I was even hoping for.

Once we were well on our way to the center of the peninsula, Andre said, “It feels like our vacation finally started.”

Whew! We did it. And I pulled it off as Captain.
