Tanque Verde Falls

Our view, from the parking spot at the top of the trail.

After we left Agua Caliente Park, we made a short trip to Tanque Verde, a small community on the eastern edge of Tucson. My cousin took us up East Redington Road, to a spot he said he learned is a much easier way to see the falls than the hike several miles up the canyon, clambering over rocks. We parked on the side of the road and hiked about 1/4 mile.

As before, I was smitten with admiration for the variety of plants that are so unusual to me.

I was even struck by this lichen on the rocks.

We took our time and enjoyed the views and then the falls was there below us:

When we were done admiring the falls, we left the area to go to another one of David’s favourite photography spots: Sabino Canyon. Though we saw zero birds at Tanque Verde, the wildlife more than made up for it at Sabino Canyon. And we saw another waterfall!

Bird Count: still fifteen as of day four in Arizona.

  1. It was a marvelous day out! And don’t be fooled! I had on hiking boots most of the day, but David had assured me that the trail to the waterfalls was very short. I had switched to Birks because my feet were hot, and I walked very carefully, mostly avoiding the cacti!
